Belmont Abbey College Awards “Extreme Makeover: Home Edition” Family Full Tuition Scholarships

December 16th, 2011

The scholarships awarded will total over $1 million.

Belmont Abbey College President Dr. William K. Thierfelder, on behalf of the College, awarded the Friday family of Lincolnton, North Carolina full tuition scholarships for each of their seven children during a filming of the hit ABC show “Extreme Makeover: Home Edition” on the Belmont campus Monday afternoon.

James and Devonda Friday, who have fostered over 30 children and have adopted five siblings in addition to their three biological children, will be featured on the show as part of a two-hour Christmas special in December, 2012. The family received the news while vacationing in Jamaica while nearly 3,000 volunteers tore down and rebuilt a new home on the property.

The scholarships awarded to the Friday children, who range in age from 6 to 15 will total over $1 million. The segment was filmed in front of the Abbey Basilica as cast member Paige Hemmis made the announcement in front of about 40 Belmont Abbey students, faculty and staff.
